Our “Flood Insurance Essentials” course was approved by the Real Estate Board of Virginia to satisfy a new licensing requirement for all real estate professionals in The Commonwealth. As of this year all licensed real estate agents in Virginia will be required to carry one hour of continuing education credit for flood-related issues.
We were granted this responsibility to educate Virginia real estate professionals because we have long been proactive about flood issues in Coastal Virginia. We created our course well before anyone knew it might required. We presented at seminars and civic league meetings to educate people about this important topic.
“Flood issues can be scary but it doesn’t have to be doom and gloom,” said Mike Vernon, COMPARITY’s Vice President of Business Development. Mike is also an expert in flood mitigation. “Realtors and homebuyers who take our course learn about the options and realize that they don’t have to give up on a dream home just because it’s in a flood zone.”
We offer our flood continuing education course through a variety of channels. Students at Alpha College of Real Estate can take the course on campus or online anywhere in Virginia. Realty and mortgage companies can schedule in-office sessions for classes of 20 or more students. Open registration classes are held at least once each month at either Beach Ford or Crawl Space Door Systems.
Visit our Flood Resources page for more information about the course and quick access to area flood maps.
Educating people about insurance is core to our mission at COMPARITY. Most people we meet, buyers and sales professionals alike, are surprised by what they don’t know about home and auto insurance. We believe that insurance education for buyers and sellers is not only good for them, it’s good for everyone. Smarter people build stronger economies.
